For over 7 years, James Guffey has been providing freelance audio engineering and music production services to artists and professional studios. After completing the Audio Engineering program at Los Angeles Recording School in 2006 at the top of his class, James has persevered in the competitive LA music industry. From songwriting and producing to recording and mixing, his versatility and professionalism have attracted high profile clients signed by Interscope Records in Santa Monica, CA. Working as a Pro Tools engineer for Interscope, James contributed to albums and singles for multi-platinum artists including Eminem, 50 Cent, The Pussycat Dolls, Keri Hilson, Nelly, Timbaland, and LMFAO.
During this time, he also CO-founded his own production company, 91 East Music, created in 2007. Working under the moniker “The Sleepwalkers”, James and his production crew have written and produced songs for more renowned artists such as Clipse, Paul Wall, Murs, Wale, Marsha Ambrosius and more. Their work on Wale’s debut album “Attention Deficit” spawned a heavily rotated music video and critically acclaimed song titled “Diary”. Despite his obviously proficient skills behind the scenes, James and his crew, The Sleepwalkers, received media attention with the release of their entirely independent album, The Edward Norton LP, in 2011. James has covered the full spectrum of audio engineering. With excellent reviews from The Sleepwalkers album, as well as his work with prominent artists, his work speaks for itself. The true competence and prowess that exudes from his work is further fortified by the mastery of both his technical and creative proficiency.
